Quick Stocking Stuffer Idea – Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Lip Gloss

by Jennifer on December 16, 2008

super-shiny-lip-gloss-burts-beesBurt’s Bees Super Shiny Lip Gloss would make a nice quick stocking stuffer for a natural kind of girl. IF you don’t mind the Burt’s Bees and Clorox deal. Warning – small rant coming right about now…

Personally, I’ve been thinking about the damn Clorox issue for months and months, and can’t come to a totally firm decision. I don’t buy Clorox cleaning products for sure, or support their whole “Look at us and our Greenworks products” issue when clearly they still support bleaching away the environment like mad. I don’t think the whole Sierra Club getting paid to support them deal is cool either. So you could say that I’m not on board with Clorox.

That said, I always did like Burt’s Bees. It’s was a little depressing when Clorox bought them but at the very least, at least Clorox isn’t totally greenwashing. They don’t  hide stuff about their “green” products, which to me is a bonus, as some major companies do try to trick consumers.

As of right now, I’ll still buy a Burt’s Bees product now and again. Mainly because I really like their Beeswax Lip Balm. I’m looking for one I like as much, but haven’t found one yet. I’d like to find a nice organic one; we’ll see. Anyhow, For my birthday I got a trio set of the Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Lip Gloss. My trio came with all the colors you see above, except Zesty Red.

I liked them overall. They’re nice and shiny, plus taste yummy. I can’t quite place the flavor (each is a bit different) but tropical fruit comes to mind. My favorite color is the Sweet Pink. I don’t love the Pucker Berry color, because it seems to accentuate lip problems – for example I accidentally burnt my lip in a freaky incense incident (don’t ask) and for about two days I had a little scar. The Pucker Berry color made the scar stand out (bleh).

They’re also made with natural ingredient and don’t dry out your lips. I’d recommend all but Pucker Berry as a good stocking stuffer. While I didn’t try the Zesty Red, it’s a cool color that resembles other lip glosses I have and like, so I’m betting it’s cool.

Now, what do you think of Burt’s Bees? Are you still using their products or did you quit?

Hey. Thanks for the link. I’m not updating the chocmoon site anymore though. I need to go ahead and delete that blog. All the contents are on http://www.lightgreenstairs.com.

I still use Burt’s Bees and put it on my Christmas list! I love their almond milk hand creme and lip balm.

Um, I knew that. Darn. Sorry Peggy, I’ll update the link later. I wrote this late, so that’s gonna be my excuse :) I haven’t tried the milk creme.

i am sad to hear about Burt’s – i’ve been with them since early on. I still think that many of their products are basically so gentle that they are edible. (that was a pitch from one of their reps that i loved – if you can eat it, it’s gotta be okay to put on your face)

my new fave all natural chapstick is essential elements (‘all good lips’) which is awesome. it’s a lot softer than burts but it’s just amazing. enjoy!

@Molly, I agree, it was sad to hear when this happened, but at least the products are still the same, for folks who still do want them. Also, thanks for the tip on essential elements, I’ll have to look it up. The Burt’s beeswax balm and some old school NOT natural lip item (that I won’t use anymore) are the only things that keep my lips perfect, so I really need some other options.

I have been wanting to get some tinted lip gloss or lip balm for a long time, but I haven’t gotten one yet because everything I’ve come across has carmine in it– even Burt’s. Yuck, yuck, yuck. Ewwww. Isn’t there some way to get a red tint without beetle powder? I’m going to try that cranberry lip gloss recipe you posted.

Plus, I’m right there with you ranting about Clorox’s GreenWorks and the emptiness of a bleach company having a green line. Why did Clorox have to happen to a nice little company like Burt’s Bees?

I think my Burt’s Bees days are over. I don’t recall the last time I bought anything from them. A year or more ago. When Tree Hugging Family featured Manor Hall Soap Company, I ordered some lip balm (mend blend), and I’ve been using that ever since. My sister-in-law loves the Wild Coffee Roast I ordered for her when I placed my first order with Manor Hall. I splurged recently and got the orange ginger when I ordered gifts. I really love it.

@Katherine – hey. That cranberry recipe looks so amazing huh – after the holiday craziness, I’m going to whip some up too. I bet it smells great. I’m glad you like the Manor Hall products. I really liked their soaps and especially their scrub. I’ll have to look at their lip balm; I usually like a lip balm, then a glossy topper, but I didn’t ever try the Manor Hall balms. Thanks for visiting :)
